Updates

Last week, only two people posted drabbles at drabblers_anon, and no one was tagged to provide new prompts. I hope that community doesn't fall off--while I've only been a member for two prompts, I really enjoy it! I might write a drabble off one of the old prompts, just to keep in practice. I'm not sure of the protocol, as far as writing to the person who "owns" the community, to ask about new prompts. I guess I'll just have to see.

I got some new writing software, especially useful for mapping out novel-length works. I've been filling in blanks for the long work I'm planning, and I'm pretty excited about it again. Also nearly ready to write it!! Yay!

FONT-FAMILY: Arial">After a long pause, Albus replied brightly, “Well, at least this should take care of those rumors about the goat!”

Knockturn Alley

Okay, this is my first ever drabble...written for the week 3 challenge at Drabblers Anonymous. Prompts:
Severus Snape
Nighttime at Knockturn Alley
Fire

Severus clutched a small parcel to his thin chest, shivering in the cool night breeze. He’d scrounged all summer to save a couple of galleons, and had spent them that afternoon in the best way he could think. Leaving Flourish and Blott’s, though, he’d run into Potter and Black--literally. They tried to snatch the book away, but he’d run, not willing to fight while holding it. Severus had ducked into Knockturn Alley, knowing the others wouldn’t follow him, but they were out there, waiting. He’d been watching for hours to make sure they were gone, so he could sneak back to the Leaky Cauldron where his parents were.

It was hours past supper time now, and there had been no sign of Potter or Black for a while. Cold, uncomfortable, and spooked by the strange sounds of the dark street behind him, he slid from the shadows. Someone jostled into his shoulder, knocking him off balance, and he stumbled.

“Get back in there, Snivellus,” said Black. “You want to skulk around in Knockturn Alley all day, you should spend the night there, too.” His face, pale in the moonlight, lit with malicious glee.

“What have you got, Snivellus?” sneered Potter. “Give it to us, and maybe we’ll let you scurry away.”

“No,” said Severus, wincing as his voice cracked on the one syllable. Black scowled, and shoved him, hard. His back slammed into the wall of the store behind him, and the parcel flew from his hands. He scrabbled after it, and Potter laughed.

“Go get it, Snivellus!” he said, kicking it down further into the Alley. Severus started after it, determined not to lose it.

“I don’t think so,” said Black. “Incendio!” The spell hit the book with a shower of sparks, and the boys laughed.

“Get it now, Snivellus,” laughed Black. He and Potter walked away, howling with laughter at Severus’ attempts to save the book from the flames.

Blowing on his burnt hands to try and cool them, Severus sat in the street, dejected, watching Lily’s birthday present burn to ash in the merry little fire.

Well, nothing yet

Obviously, I haven't yet gotten to writing any fanfic. I want to, I have ideas, but the actual writing of it intimidates me a bit, between keeping the feel of it, as well as making everyone stay in character but yet do what I want them to.

That said, I did start the big one, and since joining some communities, I've been getting ideas for drabbles--so there might actually be something to put up here soon!

quickie

Not much to add here, at the moment. Some rather vicious plot bunnies have been snapping at my ankles, however, and once NaNoWriMo is over, I will be dealing with them!
